About 35 players had their rehearsal for the NZ Accordion Orchestra, conducted by Gary Daverne. Mondiale participants:
There was a display of all the international trophies won by Grayson Masefield in the last 18 months which included competitions in many parts of Europe such as Germany, Italy, Finland, France as well as winning two categories of the 2009 Coupe Mondiale.
The concert began with the North Shore Musicale Accordion Orchestra performing. Of the North Shore accordion orchestras, Musicale is the adult "hobby" group. They rehearse for an hour and a half weekly at Sunnybrae Primary School on Auckland's North Shore, this year with conductor Robert Winchester. Along with the other orchestras they perform regularly to community groups, rest homes and at the Creative Keyboard Club in Browns Bay. In August 2009 Musicale performed in an evening concert during the Coupe Mondiale. They have often competed against NSAO in the NZ Accordion Orchestra Championship, but this year will present a festival item on Saturday evening. Their members include: Stephen Cope, Brenden Healy, Richard Hennes, Megan Jennings, Harley Jones, Dennis Lovatt, Cecilia Lynch, Jenny Manuera-Jones, Heather Masefield, Jan Olsen, Antoinette Rodahl, Robert Winchester.

Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA)
(Thank You Speech to the New Zealand Contestants)
NZAA President John Statham, fellow officers and members of the NZAA, Ladies and Gentlemen Good Afternoon.
On behalf of the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) Executive Committee and Member Nations worldwide, it is a great honor to be here today, as we give our thanks to all of those who made the 62nd Coupe Mondiale such an outstanding success.
Between the 25-29th of August, 2009, New Zealand re-affirmed its rightful place on the International Music Scene when the New Zealand Accordion Association, after years of preparation, staged the magnificent 62nd Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships and Festival.
At the concert tomorrow we will thank those that contributed to the success of the event by lending their tireless efforts and talents to bring the Coupe Mondiale dream to fruition, but today we have the great opportunity to honor those that represented New Zealand on the world stage as contestants.
New Zealand first contested the Coupe Mondiale back in 1979 when Harley Jones and Fay Major (now Fay Schaw) taught by Allan Jones, travelled to New York to compete among their fellow accordionists from around the world. Since that time New Zealand contestants have travelled to many countries around the world in their quest for musical excellence. Last year 12 of New Zealand's finest young accordionists represented our country with pride.
Contesting six categories of International Competition, these young musicians served as ambassadors not only the accordion, but also for New Zealand and the youth of today. That magical moment when the culmination of years of practice and study transformed into the performance of a lifetime on the world stage at the Bruce Mason Center, was repeated 10 times.
As CIA President, I am usually occupied up behind the scenes with technical and organizational duties, but last year I had the great opportunity to hear each of the New Zealand performances by Eddie Giffney, George Xu, Campbell Thwaites, Bor-Kuan Song, Jessica Lin, Stephanie Panzic, Grayson Masefield and the members of Notable Soundz (Michelle Chandler, Martin Meyer, Dan Robinson, Brad Williams and Tamba Young), and sincerely congratulate each them for their tremendous success.
During the Coupe Mondiale we lived the dreams of these young contestants as they competed in our competitions, showcasing their years of preparation, musical excellence and expertise. The road that led each contestant to the Coupe Mondiale included countless hours of sacrifice, practice and dedication.
In conjunction with this, we thank each of the teachers for their work and efforts in preparing the candidates as they shared their knowledge and expertise. I offer my congratulations to the teachers Lorraine Parnel, Stephanie Poole, Tatiana Lantchikova, Heather Masefield, Rebekah Grieg and Tania Lukic-Marx and Frederic Decshamps for their excellent and professional work.
We also give thanks to their families, that gave of their time, emotional support and often considerable financial investment for lessons, travel and of course the beautiful instruments they are playing. We as a nation, and a proud host organization embrace this team spirit between contestants, teachers and families and offer our thanks for all your efforts.
You are all winners and wish you all much continued success. You can be proud of your magnificent efforts, and were each an integral part of showcasing New Zealand's commitment to the continual advancement of the accordion.

Amber Masefield, sister of Grayson Masefield accepting the plaque on behalf of Grayson Masefield who is currently in Paris.
Grayson sent a message which sister Amber read out to the audience.
I would like to read this message from Grayson Masefield who is unable to be here as he is in France after performing, this year alone, in Lithuania, Monaco, France, Germany, USA and Italy.
Last year was a great success placing second in Klingental Entertainment in Germany, and Trophee Mondiale Classical in Spain and winning the Primus Ikaalinen in Finland, the Roland V-Accordion festival in Rome and both the Coupe Mondiale Classical and Entertainment back home in Auckland, New Zealand. Along with these was the North Harbour AIMES award where I again performed at the Bruce Mason Centre.
The last few years have been extremely hard work and wouldn't have been possible without a lot of help and support. I would first of all like to thank the Accordion Examination Board for hosting all of the examinations I have sat and the Allan William Jones Memorial Scholarships for its support through it's annual scholarship fund.
The North Shore Accordion Orchestra, its tutors and Lionel Reekie, for many years spent playing with the orchestra from a very young age, getting the opportunities to play in front of audiences and travel internationally.
Many thanks to Tony Davies-Jones who has graciously contributed to help me stay in Europe and of course I must say a very big thank you to my parents and sister who have generously supported me and are always pushing me to succeed at my very best.
I must also thank my uncles Maurice and Harley for their support and constant help and for providing my instruments. And my professor, Frederic Deschamps who has offered me the chance of a lifetime, helping me to tour the world with my instruments.
Lastly I have to thank the NZAA for all the work it's done. I first competed when I was four and attended non-stop for 17 years. I have always looked forward to Queen's Birthday Weekend due to this competition, and am very sorry to be unable to attend these past two years. I would like to thank the NZAA president John Statham and all the committee members for all their hard work and dedication.
I wish good luck to all this year's competitors.
Thank you very much for awarding me this plaque - I have been very proud to represent New Zealand.
