The concert began with the New Zealand Accordion Orchestra.  About 35 players were participating in this orchestra conducted by Gary Daverne.

The New Zealand Accordion Orchestra on stage with Gary.  First work was Auckland March that was commissioned by the NZAA for the 2009 Coupe Mondiale.  The orchestra with Stephanie Poole as First Accordion, put on a very  popular performance.

Second work performed was themes from the movie Pirates of the Carribean arranged by Gary Daverne.

Third work was a medley of Abba tunes symphonically arranged by Gary Daverne.  The audience joined in singing the melodies and clapping.  Gary Daverne was warmly thanked by NZAA President John Statham for all that he does for the accordion and also for conducting the New Zealand Accordion Orchestra so superbly.

Kevin Friedrich, Immediate Past President of the Confederation Internationale des Accordeonistes (CIA) IMC - UNESCO then took the stage to thank the NZAA Committee and others for all their efforts in hosting a outstandingly successful 2009 Coupe Mondiale in Takapuna, North Shore City.

NZAA President John Statham, fellow officers and members of the NZAA, Ladies and Gentlemen Good Afternoon.

Held for the second time on New Zealand, during this weeklong International extravaganza, New Zealand welcomed the elite of the accordion world to its shores, hosting International Delegates representing their national organizations, some of the finest young accordionists in the world competing in seven categories of International competitions, distinguished members of the International jury panel and acclaimed artists who have appeared in concert.

Making a commitment to stage a festival that would hold its own against any other International event, the NZAA ensured that our International delegation comprising Delegates and contestants from around the globe as well as their own membership and guests were provided with the highest calibre organization

No detail was left unturned.  From the finest of concert halls in Auckland, to the stunning festival program book, to the magnificent music prelude and postludes held in the foyer, to the school children's concert, to the VIP and Social Functions, to the TV and Press Coverage, to the outstanding concerts, this event has gone down in CIA history, as did the 1980 event, as one to judge other festival by.

Firstly thanks to Harley Jones for his vision in coordinating the 2009 Coupe Mondiale to be held in New Zealand in the first place, and being a liason between the NZAA and CIA and on the home front. A big that you to Heather Masefield for her coordination of the Coupe Mondiale activities. Thank you to Alison Worthington and Carol Yan for their tireless efforts on behalf of the 2009 Coupe Mondiale.

Many people played such important roles, such as Sjona Palinic for her media relations, Lionel Reekie for coordinating all the performances and the popular School Children's Concerts, Christine Adams for her work coordinating the World Accordion Orchestra, Marcel Reithman for his leadership in the Coupe Mondale development team assisted by Heather Masefield, Pamela Yan for lending her expertise in the graphics and design area, Danielle Beston for her efforts with Fundraising and Sponsorship and Anne Marie Panzic for her work coordinating all the visas and travel arrangements for our International guests.

My sincerest thanks to Gary Daverne for his generous support of the festival by bringing his renowned Auckland Symphony Orchestra while featuring the diverse array of soloists, including Stephanie Poole and Tracy Collins from New Zealand, the premiering of his newly commissioned work the Auckland March, and releasing his new work Koriana which received the award for the best new Original Work, and for lending his talents in directing the World Accordion Orchestra III.

We thank those that assisted the CIA such as Heather Masefiled, Stephanie Poole and Stephen Vincent for their work as International adjudicators, Maurice Jones and Tony Davies Jones for their behind the scenes work coordinating much of the travel, instruments and technical details.

Such a team requires the inspiration and leadership of a person that not only believes in the cause, but is willing to ensure the commitments are met. I offer my heartfelt thanks to the NZAA President and 2009 CIA Honorary Vice President John Statham for his vision in supporting the dream of hosting the 2009 Coupe Mondiale in New Zealand.

My congratulations to John and the NZAA for this spectacular staging of the Coupe Mondiale 2009.  Thank you Team New Zealand comprising John Statham, Heather Masefield, Harley Jones, Carol Yan, Amber Masefield, Annemarie Panzic, Jenna Murray, Alison Worthington, Danielle Beston, Sonja Palinich, Campbell Bettridge, Christine Adams, Lionel Reekie, Marcel Reithmann and Pamela Yan for a job well done!

Thank you for your great contribution to the accordion world. Our International attendees have come away with a great appreciation of the outstanding work that the New Zealand Accordion Association undertakes. On behalf of the CIA, as you near the milestone of the NZAA 40th Anniversary we wish you much success in your future endeavours.

NZAA President John Statham thanked Kevin Friedrich very much for coming all the way from New York to honor the New Zealand constestants and the NZAA committee and all those involved in organising the 2009 Coupe Mondiale.  This  major journey to say thank you was greatly appreciated by the contestants, their teachers, and all those who helped organise the 2009 Coupe Mondiale.  John referred to the very long history of Kevin with the NZAA and assisting accordionists from New Zealand and made the statement, that whenever help was needed, the NZAA and all NZ accordionists could rely on Kevin Friedrich to be there 100% for them.

There was large applause from the audience for Kevin Friedrich who is enormously admired by the NZ's accordionists.

He Qian - Guest Artist for the 2010 South Pacific Accordion Championships was next to perform. He Qian was born on 17 May 1985. She began to learn the accordion aged 4 years and is now pursuing a Masters degree at Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China. She was the winner of the International Competition for Piano Accordion at the 2009 Coupe Mondiale held in Auckland New Zealand.

Her accordion was damaged on the way to New Zealand so she had to borrow an accordion.  Her performance was amazing and greatly appreciated by the audience with a long ovation.

To conclude the concert,  the NSAO was performing. The North Shore Accordion Orchestra (NSAO) members are largely from Auckland's North Shore and meet once a week to practice under the baton of conductor Lionel Reekie. In past years they have toured to Sydney to play as guests of the AATA, and to Brisbane as guests of the Queensland Accordion Club.

In August 2007 they travelled to USA as guest artists of the American Accordion Association (AAA)  and the Accordionists & Teachers Guild (ATG) where they performed four concerts: three in Washington during the Coupe Mondiale and one at the Febbraio School of Music in New York. 

In August 2009, NSAO received a standing ovation for their performance in the Friday evening concert at the Coupe Mondiale encouraging them to produce a CD which was released in December last year.

The current members are: Shane Adams, Jessica Chen, Edward Giffney, Renee Jeffries, Amber Masefield, Jenna Murray, Kristina Panzic, Stephanie Panzic, Olivia Panzic, Roseanne Rosario, Aidan Wright and George Xu.

Lionel has an injured hand but having his arm in a  sling was no deterrent to Lionel making a real conducting statement.  The audience thoroughly enjoyed this superb accordion orchestra and applauding accordingly.

John Statham (NZAA President) then gave a farewell speech to everyone, thanking the competitors,  their teachers, the parents who are so supportive, all the people who helped to organise and run the event, and lastly, thanked the audience, for being such an excellent audience.

Megan Jennings (teacher) accepting the Cecil Smith Trophy on behalf of her two vision impaired students Leyna and Petra Coleman.

This trophy is being awarded for a performance during this weekend, (not necessarily a winning performance), that in some special way impresses the audience. Cecil Smith, 1908 to 1989, was born in New Plymouth and lived all his life there. Cecil played the cornet, piano, double bass and accordion amongst other instruments, but the accordion was his favourite instrument. In the last ten years of his life, Cecil played at old folks homes and hospitals, giving pleasure to many thousands of  people with his music.  Accordion was his main pleasure in later years and he played right up to the time that he passed away. He left his accordion to his grand niece Nicole Phillips and this trophy was donated by his family who wanted to recognise his kindness and generosity and to put a little back into the musical pursuit that Cecil Smith so much enjoyed.

This annual trophy has been donated by the Cocurullo Family of Dargaville as a non musicianship award for services to music.  The Cocurullo Family have been prominent in accordion affairs in Northland for many years and the purpose of this trophy is to recognise the important contribution of many non musicians who support this event, working behind the scenes, to make the event possible.

Eddie Giffney was  awarded the Doreen and Ben Emmett Memorial Rosebowl for an outstanding classical performance during the weekend for his performance of the Sonata No. 32 in G minor, Hadyn on Saturday.

Ben Emmett Accordion Orchestra Commendation Trophy.  This trophy is awarded for a highly commendable performance by an accordion orchestra.

The trophy has been donated by the two daughters of Ben and Doreen Emmett in memory of the important contribution they made to the development of the accordion in the Dargaville area from the 1950's until their deaths in 1976 and 1990.  They taught many pupils, their most famous pupil being Kevin Friedrich.

Competitions Secretary Annemarie Panzic was given a special mention for her 10 years of service as the Competitions Secretary and also being an NZAA Committee member.  Annemarie is retiring from the NZAA committee this year and the speech by John Statham thanking her for all her service,  was warmly applauded by the audience.
