2020 International Video Competition & Promotion
of Accordion Music by Gary Daverne



Results: The winner was Vladimir Stupnikov from Russia. Vladimir Stupnikov and his teacher Friedrich Lips won the 1st prize of two round trip air tickets to New Zealand to the 2020 South Pacific Accordion Championships.

There were 15 entries from many different countries and the overall standard was excellent. Gary Daverne wrote: "I want to thank the entrants for their music and enthusiasm. I was very impressed and happy to hear my music being performed at such a high standard."
 
 
   

2019/20 Competition Entry Information

This is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY for the winners to visit New Zealand. This competition is open to musicians
of any age and nationality.

General Information / Requirements:
1. This is a free online "Video Competition for Accordionists of all ages and nationalities" with a 1st prize of two round trip air tickets to New Zealand to the 2020 South Pacific Accordion Championships, 30-31 May 2020, Auckland, New Zealand. Accommodation for 3 nights included.
2. Contestants must send a .mp4 video recording of one (or more) work/s composed by Gary Daverne. Gary Daverne has a wide repertoire of compositions for accordion including:
  - solo;
  - accordion duet or accordion with another instrument;
  - accordion trio/ensemble or accordion with string ensemble;
  - accordion orchestra;
  - accordion soloist with accordion orchestra or accordion soloist with string orchestra/ensemble or accordion soloist with symphony orchestra.
3. All the Gary Daverne accordion music is available for any contestant free of charge upon request. Complete list of accordion music at:

4. Contestants can make one entry (with one or more Daverne works own choice) and may also enter multiple times within different player/group combinations.
5. No minimum or maximum playing time requirement.
6. Other awards: All "excellent level" performances will be recognised with a Gold or Silver Merit Award.
7. The 1st Prize tickets depends upon the format of the winning performance:
  - If a solist wins: the air tickets will be for the soloist and the teacher;
  - If duet/trio/ensemble wins, the two tickets should be for one accordionist and the teacher;
  - If an orchestra wins, the airfares should be for the conductor/teacher and one accordionist.
8. If required the NZAA can provide the additional players of the orchestra from a selection of New Zealand accordionists. Accordionists are chosen at NZAA discretion.
9. Should a New Zealand domiciled entry win, the prize would be two tickets to an agreed international event to be discussed with the winner.
10. No entry fee required.

12. Any make or type of acoustic accordion (bellows instrument) may be used.
13. A candidate's entry implies acceptance of regulations, the system of judging and the jury's decision being final.

Gary Daverne, Kevin Friedrich, Grayson Masefield, Stephanie Poole.
In the unlikely event of equal winners by the jury, the composer Gary Daverne shall have a casting vote.
18. Videos entered may be used for public promotion and are the property of MusicForAccordion.com
19. Contestants are judged on performance, presentation and overall musicianship including: technical proficiency and stylistic understanding of all music performed. THE DECISIONS OF THE JURY ARE FINAL.
20. Results of the competition will be sent to the competitors by email prior to the results being publicly announced on 07 February 2020 on the accordions.com Weekly News. The results of the jury are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
